Outdoor-based therapy:

Reconnect

To what extent can we reconnect with ourselves if we are disconnected from nature? There is a growing body of research that suggests something many of us already know: nature heals. Studies indicate that spending time in the woods can lower stress, improve attention & mood, and reduce the risk of psychiatric illness. Research aside, we know that it just plain feels good to be outdoors. Being in wilderness lends itself to feeling more grounded, open, and present. Therefore it is no surprise that as we spend more and more time indoors and on screens, our mental health is declining. The EPA estimates that Americans spend an average of 93% of their time indoors because—let’s face it, most of us have to in order to participate in a world that is increasingly disconnected. Our outdoor therapy program is called ‘reconnect’ because it combines evidenced-based therapy with the restorative touch of the beautiful Colorado outdoors to help you reconnect with your center.

RECONNECT THERAPIST, ALEX LIPPINCOTT

How it works

In a reconnect therapy session I don’t leave my clinical training and experience behind; I don’t  ditch my evidenced-based practices, treatment plans, and clinical license back at the office. This program is for those who are looking for psychotherapy, minus the fluorescent lights and office walls. Reconnect sessions take place in quiet, comfortable outdoor locations in the Denver/Golden area front range and are accessible to all outdoor experience and ability levels. While we love the action oriented outdoor activities (hiking, running, climbing, etc.), these sessions are seated and the work lies not in pushing yourself physically, but rather exploring your inner ecosystem of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Just as we would with indoor therapy, we will collaborate in creating impactful therapeutic goals, and work together to identify and address the barriers that stand between you and a happier life.
